PEPPER EXPORTS FOR THE FIRST 10 MONTHS OF 2023 INCREASED BY 14.6%

As of the end of October 2023, Vietnam has exported 223,578 tons of various types of pepper, of which black pepper reached 200,571 tons and white pepper reached 23,007 tons. The total export value reached 750.8 million USD, with black pepper contributing 640.2 million USD and white pepper contributing 110.6 million USD. Compared to the same period last year, the export volume increased by 14.6%, but the export value decreased by 11.7%. The average export price for black pepper in the first 10 months was 3,553 USD per ton, and for white pepper, it was 5,082 USD per ton. In comparison to the previous year, the export prices decreased by 17.6% for black pepper and 15.6% for white pepper.

China remains the largest export market for Vietnamโ€™s pepper, reaching 57,723 tons, accounting for 25.8% of the market share and a significant increase of 265.3% compared to the same period last year. However, recent import volumes from China have shown a decreasing trend after purchasing a sufficient amount of goods in the first two quarters of the year. Exports to India reached 10,538 tons, a decrease of 8.5%; to the UAE reached 10,025 tons, a decrease of 29.8%. Exports to South Korea, Japan, and Pakistan also decreased, while exports to the Philippines, Thailand, Iran, and Saudi Arabia increased compared to the same period.

The United States is the second-largest export market for Vietnamese pepper, reaching 42,600 tons, accounting for 19.1% of the market share and a 6.3% decrease compared to the same period last year. The European region accounts for a 19.0% share of the export market, with a 4.8% decrease compared to the same period. Germany decreased by 7.4% to 7,754 tons, the Netherlands decreased by 4.7% to 6,582 tons, Russia decreased by 8.1% to 4,662 tons, and the UK decreased by 8.1% to 4,077 tons. Two markets, Turkey and France, recorded significant export increases of 69.7% and 31.1%, reaching 3,900 tons and 3,097 tons, respectively. Exports to Africa increased by 9.9%, with Egypt increasing by 30.1% to 3,687 tons and South Africa increasing by 10.5% to 1,957 tons.

The main markets for white pepper consumption include the United States (3,086 tons), Germany (2,816 tons), China (2,701 tons), the Netherlands (2,138 tons), and Thailand (1,842 tons).
